ACTFL Raffle Winners

Thank you all for visiting us at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Conference at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Many of you visited our booth and entered the raffle to win complimentary registration to the 2011 National Chinese Language Conference (NCLC) in San Francisco.

And the winners are...
Daisy Chen Laone, Principal of the Chinese Language School of Connecticut and Na Pan, Chinese language teacher at Valley High School, Iowa.

Daisy Chen Laone is the Principal of the Chinese Language School of Connecticut, a non-profit organization and the only dual accredited supplementary school in the US. Daisy received her Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Rater full certificate in May 2009 which allows her to work with ACTFL to rate performance and determine students’ placement levels. Daisy participated in the 2008, 2009 and 2010 STARTALK program at Glastonbury, CT. She also presented at the ACTFL conference in 2009 and 2010.

Na Pan 潘娜, born in Baoji, China, came to the United States for her M.A in Applied Linguistics in 2007 at Iowa State University. She started working in Valley High School, West Des Moines, Iowa in 2008 to build their first Chinese program in the school district. There are a variety of activities associated with her Chinese class. The Chinese program at Valley focuses on a communicative environment in the classroom and students are involved in doing a variety of activities such as Chinese dragon and lion dancing, Chinese orchestra, and skit competitions.
